Creating Change Through Art: Experimental Film Module on Sustainable Development Goals

The British University in Egypt invites students to explore the power of storytelling in Arts and Design new module focused on creating experimental films that raise awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Adopted by the UN in 2015, the SDGs call on society to unite and drive actions to end poverty, protect the planet, and foster global peace and prosperity by 2030.

Module Overview and Objectives

In this module, students will select one SDG, research its associated challenges and potential solutions, and develop an experimental film to highlight these critical issues. Through this project, students will enhance their creative skills in motion graphics and traditional animation, all while gaining a deeper understanding of global goals and the need for social, economic, and environmental sustainability.

Students will:

  1. Select an SDG to focus their research and artistic exploration.
  2. Research the problem and solutions related to the chosen SDG.
  3. Storyboard their film with a combination of photos and drawings to outline the concept.
  4. Incorporate Motion Graphics & Animation by blending digital motion techniques with traditional animation.
  5. Add Music to enhance the storytelling.
  6. Technical Guidelines: The film should be created using 10-15 frames per second, with optional use of reverse techniques.
  7. Software: Use Adobe Premiere, After Effects, or equivalent software to bring the project to life.
  8. Export: Deliver the final product as a video file.
  • Experimental Film Video: A powerful and artistic representation of the chosen SDG in video format.

Through this creative module, students will not only develop key skills in digital media and animation but also play an essential role in advocating for sustainable global progress.
