Your Voice Matters: Student Representation on The British University in Egypt Senate

At the British University in Egypt, we believe in the importance of student voices in shaping our academic community. That’s why the University Senate, the body responsible for academic governance, includes student representatives.

The Senate includes 3 student representatives to ensure that student perspectives are heard at the highest levels of university decision-making. These representatives are:

  • The Student Union President

  • 2 elected members from other SU heads and/or SU faculty presidents

This structure ensures that a range of student experiences and viewpoints are included in Senate discussions.

What Does the Senate Do?

The University Senate is a key body within the University. It plays a vital role in setting academic policies, overseeing the quality of education and making important decisions about the university’s future. By having student representatives, the Senate can make more informed decisions that reflect the needs and interests of the entire student body.

Length of Service

Undergraduate student members serve for a term of one year. This allows for fresh perspectives and ensures that more students have the opportunity to participate in the Senate. Students can serve a maximum of two terms.

Elections for student representatives are held annually or bi-annually, depending on the need. The Senate Elections Office is responsible for running the election process.

Having student representatives in the Senate is important because it gives students a direct say in how the university is run, ensures that student interests are considered in academic decision-making, and promotes a sense of community and shared responsibility.

The British University in Egypt  is committed to fostering a collaborative environment where students and staff work together to achieve academic excellence.
