The Department of Economics hosted the Climate Change event that took place on Tuesday March 15th, 2022, at the BUE Library’s Culture Room.
The honorable speaker, Dr. Youssef Nassef, Director of the Adaptation Division, UNFCCC, and Chair of the World Adaptation Science Programme (UNFCCC), gave a very informative and interesting session on “Climate Change: Global and National Perspectives” in the presence of Professor Wadouda Badran, Dean of School of Business Administration, Economics and Political Science (BAEPS), Dr. Rania Miniesy, Acting Head of the Economics Department, academic staff from the Departments of Economics, Business Administration, Political Science, Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Maha Elhini and Dr. Hoda Hassaballa, as well as members of The Hayah Kareema Team and Degree Year three students of the Economics Department.
The event introduced the audience to the primary and secondary impacts of climate change and the attributes of climate change and presented data on global sectoral greenhouse emissions. Further, Dr. Nassef discussed different Treaties on climate change and their legal instruments, namely, The Paris and Kyoto Agreements, via explaining the complexity of negotiation dynamics to achieve consensus by the 200 member countries; moreover, tradeoffs on adaptation were also discussed, as well as the transition from a “problem/solution” mindset towards a mindset for “creative design of our future”.
