The British University in Egypt Releases 2023-2024 Climate Action Plan

The British University in Egypt (BUE) is proud to announce the release of its Strategic Initiatives for SDG 13: Climate Action Plan 2023–2024.

This comprehensive plan places sustainability at the core of BUE’s mission, integrating environmental stewardship across its three strategic pillars: Teaching and Learning, Research, and Community Engagement. Our commitment is fully aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Driving Transformative Climate Action

The 2023-2024 plan highlights BUE’s pioneering achievements, including:

  • Regional First: Solidifying our position as the first university in the region to commit to aligning with the SDGs through a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

  • Living Laboratory: Transforming the BUE campus into a “Living Laboratory” where sustainability principles are actively demonstrated and tested—from solar-powered electric vehicle charging stations to on-campus water desalination that also provides clean water to underprivileged local communities.

  • Youth Leadership: Fostering the next generation of SDG implementers through high-impact initiatives like the multi-year partnership with UNDP on the annual COP Simulation Model, which brought together students from over 30 universities worldwide.

BUE is committed to advancing environmental and climate quality, developing graduates equipped to drive sustainable development, and providing policy-relevant insights.
