Synthesizing International Actions into Credible, Actionable Best Practices for the Regional Pursuit of SDGs

The British University in Egypt  champions the development of international best practices for tackling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by positioning itself as a central hub for collaborative research and comparative studies. The primary mechanism for this work is the annual Conference of Business, Economics and Politics of the Middle East, a high-level academic event dedicated to studying the region through interdisciplinary lenses.

With a vision to enrich the academic and practitioner community through a wide range of research topics about the Middle East, the 2024 conference is co-organized in collaboration with the UK’s London South Bank University (LSBU), Harper Adams University’s Department of Food, Land, and Agribusiness Management (FLAM); Greece’s Harokopio University’s Department of Economics and Sustainable Development; and Hungary’s Ludovika University of Public Service (LUPS), Faculty of Public Governance and International Studies. The International Network for Economic Research (INFER) also supports the conference.

The conference is anchored by a theme that cuts directly across the global sustainability agenda: Digitalization, Governance, and Sustainability. By focusing on tracks such as Sustainability and Environment in the Middle East, the university ensures that its research directly addresses complex local and global SDG challenges. This forum allows over a hundred attendees, presenters, and chairs to engage in rigorous intellectual discussion, translating academic findings into practical, region-specific strategies.

Crucially, The British University in Egypt strategically leverages its international networks to ensure its findings are informed by comparative global approaches. The 2024 conference is co-organized with several distinguished international partners: the London South Bank University (LSBU) and Harper Adams University (Department of Food, Land and Agribusiness Management – FLAM) from the UK; Harokopio University (Department of Economics and Sustainable Development) from Greece; and Ludovika University of Public Service (LUPS) from Hungary. The event’s wide-ranging support, including from the International Network for Economic Research (INFER), emphasizes its global reach. This collaborative structure guarantees that the research presented and the solutions developed are subjected to international scrutiny, incorporating diverse governance models and economic perspectives. By hosting this convergence of UK, European, and Middle Eastern expertise, The British University in Egypt acts as a vital bridge, systematically reviewing various international methods and synthesizing them into credible, actionable best practices tailored for the regional pursuit of the SDGs.
