The British University in Egypt proudly celebrates the outstanding achievement of its student theatre troupe, whose production of the play ‘Arees El Bahr’ (The Groom of the Sea) became a major cultural sensation at the New Alamein Festival this past summer!
This compelling theatrical work, described as a “Human Epic from Egyptian Folk Traditions,” was entirely produced and acted by talented students from the British University in Egypt’s Theatre Team. The University’s commitment to nurturing creative and performing arts among its students was powerfully demonstrated when ‘Arees El Bahr,‘ written by Mohamed Adel and directed by Walid Talaat, secured its place among professional productions at one of the Middle East’s largest entertainment events.
The play was performed to a enthusiastic audience at the U Theater in New Alamein City on August 27th and 28th, 2024. Its selection for the festival was a direct testament to the high caliber of performance and the profound community message embedded in the work, which skillfully weaves together drama, folk heritage, and contemporary issues.
By showcasing their original work on such a prominent national stage, the British University in Egypt students not only highlighted their artistic excellence but also contributed significantly to the cultural dialogue surrounding Egyptian popular folklore. The University is committed to fostering young talent and providing its students with real-world platforms to share their creativity, enriching Egypt’s cultural scene in the process.
