We’re excited to announce a new publication produced under the Building a Sustainable Energy Future (BaSEF) project—a DAAD-funded collaboration between the British University in Egypt (BUE), the American University in Cairo (AUC), and the University of Cologne. This publication brings together insights from undergraduate and postgraduate students and researchers across these institutions who share a commitment to renewable energy, energy transition, and environmental economics.

The BaSEF project’s goal is to equip participants with the tools needed for developing sustainable energy solutions and exploring future energy perspectives. Among the project’s notable missions is establishing an ongoing academic partnership between the Institute of Energy Economics (EWI) at the University of Cologne, BUE’s Economics Department, and AUC’s Department of Petroleum and Energy Engineering. This collaboration aims to build long-term research partnerships and foster economic ties between Egypt and Germany.

In addition to exploring the role of hydrogen in future energy systems, this publication highlights Egypt’s potential to become a producer and exporter of green hydrogen. BaSEF’s work directly supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Egypt Vision 2030 by advancing sustainable energy practices, building international partnerships, and promoting innovation in energy research.

This publication is a testament to BaSEF’s commitment to driving climate action and empowering the next generation of researchers in sustainable energy fields.
